Our caput nursing educator has informed u.s. that policies will be changing for our infirmary and basically every infirmary in our land because the evidence doesn't show enough support for nails to cause a risk to patients.

The silliest hospitals are the ones that forbid boom shine due to "infection concerns", yet force you to clothing long sleeves to encompass any visible tattoos. As if those somehow don't carry nasty germs from room to room. The irony is ridiculous. Pick a goddamn lane, admin!

Even only nail shine...really?

That's what I came here to say. I go on clear polish on my nails ever. Is information technology unhygienic?

I still go gel manicures 🤷🏻♀️ imo, amend than some of my classmates I come across with chipped smooth or long imitation nails.

I'1000 more worried well-nigh people performing hand hygiene period than I am about their nails. The simply time I ever terminate someone is if it's an evidently fake long smash like a costume boom. Similar really obvious. That'south happened twice. Virtually people go their gel/dip/shellac/acrylic cut to natural length and regularly get them redone.

As for the nail smooth chips harboring bacteria - my natural nails are a peeling, flaking mess. Smoothen really helps contain the peeling and they don't break as hands with polish. 🤷🏼♀️

I was recently in postpartum recovery and one of the nurses had huuuuuuge acrylics with picayune charms glued onto them, watched her poke one thru a glove when attempting to put them on. Gotta acknowledge, I fabricated a point of minimizing contact with my i day old baby and those things.

I piece of work long term care and I can't count the number of peel tears I've had to clothes that were acquired by long fingernails. Sometimes it's the residents' nails, sometimes staff'south

That gets me and the nurses with hair downward to their chest that they leave downwards and whenever they lean over a pt their pilus is all in the grossness.

Thank you! I remember patients deserve to come across how make clean (or dirty) our nails are. Yous cant see dirt and crap nether someone's nails if they have smoothen on. I'd rather see information technology all banned than trust all these employees west polish or gels are going the actress mile for hand hygiene.

This seems like an overreaction.

Brusque manicured gel nails are the only adequate nails in my stance
